2011 Birth Summary
During the calendar year 2011 a there were a total of 66 (known) pregnancies of cetaceans around the world. Of this total 58 resulted in the birth of a live calf, 7 were the product of either miscarriage or stillbirth and in 1 case the pregnant mother died before her due date. 43 of the 58 known live-births are still alive as of 31 Dec 2011. There was also one case of twins in the year 2011, bottlenose dolphin "Roxanne" carried two fetuses to the 10th month of pregnancy before 1 died in utero. The following day both fetuses were expelled, stillborn. For the purpose of this summary the twins will count as one pregnancy event.

The births noted above occurred in eight species: Amazon River Dolphin (1), Beluga (5), Bottlenose (51), Commerson's Dolphin (1), Killer Whale (1), Pacific White-sided Dolphin (4), Pantropical Spotted Dolphin (1) and Risso's Dolphin (1). The was also one birth of a hybrid calf between a female bottlenose and male Risso's dolphin.

• Killer Whale: 1 total birth, 1 live birth, 0 stillborn/miscarriage. 1 still alive
• Risso's Dolphin: 1 total birth, 1 live birth, 0 stillborn/miscarriage. 0 still alive
• River Dolphin, Amazon: 1 total births, 0 live birth, 1 stillborn/miscarriage. 0 still alive
• Spotted Dolphin, Pantropical: 1 total births, 1 live birth, 0 stillborn/miscarriage. 1 still alive?
• White-sided Dolphins, Pacific: 4 total births, 4 live birth, 0 stillborn/miscarriage. 1 still alive
